At The Pragmatic Therapist, we are building a grounded, relational, trauma-informed therapy practice centered around meaningful emotional work, authenticity, and sustainable clinical care. We specialize in working with adults navigating trauma, emotional overwhelm, relationship patterns, anxiety, and deeper emotional healing using approaches such as EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
We are currently looking for counselors, therapists, social workers, or psychologists interested in working in a collaborative, down-to-earth, emotionally thoughtful private practice environment in downtown Fairfax, VA.
One of the things we care deeply about is creating a practice environment that feels sustainable for therapists — not just clients. We believe meaningful therapy happens through emotional presence, authenticity, humility, curiosity, and genuine human connection, not productivity pressure or trying to fit clinicians into a rigid mold.
Our practice is intentionally smaller, relational, and collaborative. We value therapists who are thoughtful, grounded, emotionally intelligent, and interested in continuing to grow clinically while developing their own authentic therapeutic voice.
I typically encourage therapists to maintain sustainable caseloads rather than pushing toward burnout-level schedules. Most clinicians in the practice see around 10–20 clients per week depending on their goals and availability.
If our approach resonates with you, I would genuinely love to connect and learn more about you. As part of the interview process, I also encourage potential clinicians to speak directly with the other therapists in the practice to get a feel for the culture and work environment.
If you are looking for a more grounded, thoughtful, emotionally intelligent private practice environment, feel free to reach out.
