EMDR Intensives

EMDR intensives speed recovery

EMDR intensives pack all the great benefits of EMDR into a 3-4 hour therapy session conducted over a single day. Intensives are for anyone looking to do a significant amount of healing in a short period of time.  What traditional, weekly EMDR sessions can do in a month an intensive can do in one day. The goal is to get as much healing done at once while also spacing the sessions out to allow for natural processing and recovery.

Formats:

Currently, all intensives are conducted virtually

  • One, 3-4 hour session with no scheduled follow up sessions but an invitation to come in as needed
  • One, 3-4 hour session done weekly for a few weeks
  • One, 3-4 hour session done every other week for a few weeks
  • One, 3-4 hour session done monthly for a few months

EMDR Intensives are perfect for packing a lot of healing all at once

EMDR intensives do an excellent job packing in therapy in a short period of time. An intensive is particularly well suited for recent events, upcoming events, and lingering symptoms from past events.

Recent events such as:
  • car accidents
  • sexual assault
  • panic attacks, grief
  • domestic violence
  • divorce
  • loss of a loved one
  • witnessing/being targeted by crime, violence, or disturbing imagery or stimuli

Preparation for upcoming events:

  • anxiety with travel
  • panic attacks about upcoming events
  • anxiety with pending medical or dental needs
Signs of lingering symptoms from past events:

  • Low self-esteem and low confidence
  • Difficulty making decisions and procrastination
  • Anxiety (medical anxiety, dental anxiety, everyday anxiety, low level to high level anxiety)
  • Panic attacks
  • Emotional Numbness
  • Eating disorders
  • Substance abuse
  • Sleep problems
  • Grief
  • Depression
  • Phobias
  • Upsetting childhood events
  • Anger issues
  • Difficulty with parenting your children
  • Difficulty setting boundaries with friends or family
  • Nightmares

What does an intensive feel like?

An intensive feels like a marathon workout. It’s difficult and challenging but the rewards are worth it.  Most people feel tired and fatigued after an intensive but also report feeling like they were able to sort through weeks worth of content quickly. Many people will take the rest of the day off for rest and recovery after an intensive.

What are EMDR intensives not good for?

EMDR intensives are not good for ongoing therapy. They are designed to focus and heal in a specific area, or to prepare for, or unpack a significant event. They can be used in adjunct to weekly individual counseling but not to replace it because EMDR works best with recovery and natural processing as neural pathways in your brain are healed and reconfigured.
